Why do teeth discolour?
The colour of your teeth is very individual and varies from patient to patient. Extrinsic factors such as coffee, tea, Cola, tobacco or red wine can leach the tooth enamel and remain there. Intrinsic factors can include the side effects of illness, medication or trauma suffered from accidents.
Teeth whitening with Opalescence
All Opalescence products are highly effective, prescription strength gels but still gentle to the teeth. The whitening substance is Carbamide-Peroxide, in the for of a gel that is absorbed into the tooth enamel containing the oxidized pigments. This is where it breaks down those colour molecules and hence reduces discolouration.
All Opalescence gels contain the patented PF Formula – with Potassium Fluoride to minimize sensitivity and strengthen the enamel. In addition, the gel offers teeth increased protection against cavities.
The treatment plan with opalescence teeth whitening products
After a full consultation and diagnosis, the optimal tooth colour can be determined. One week before the actual tooth whitening appointment, the teeth will be intensively cleaned and an imprint taken of your teeth for your customised teeth whitening tray.
The first appointment for the treatment last 30 minutes, with the personal whitening tray and Opalescence Quick PF (45% Carbamide Peroxide).
The process is continued at home, with your personal whitening tray used overnight with Opalescence PF (10% Carbamide Peroxide).
